2021 Hearst and the Emma Bowen Foundation establish an endowment to provide need-based scholarships and internship opportunities within the media industry to minority students. The endowment, funded by Hearst, honors Hearst Vice President of Finance Jeana Stanley, who passed away in June 2020. The endowment is designed to assist finance students from diverse backgrounds seeking internships and career opportunities in media. In addition to accessing need-based scholarships, students will receive industry-specific education and training and internship opportunities at Hearst stations and other Hearst units as well as other media-related companies. |

In October, the conversation about race, equality and justice is the focus of a live multimedia interactive forum across many of Hearst’s media brands with the debut of “The Hard Truth About Bias: Images and Reality.” The digital program, originating from New York and featuring a wide array of topic leaders from across the nation, is a special project of Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien and marks the first installment of the Matter of Fact Listening Tour, unfolding a series of quarterly virtual forums to be presented in 2021. The initiative harnesses the combined digital platforms of Hearst’s consumer media brands to livestream the presentation — including TV stations and newspapers around the country, as well as many of Hearst’s popular magazines — and is also streamed on Matter of Fact’s website, YouTube and Facebook Live channels. |
