沿革
13 EVENTS
Digi was founded in 1985
went public in 1989
When Digi XBee was launched in 2005, XBee was not yet called XBee, and the Internet of Things was not called the “Internet of Things.” Back then, it was machine-to-machine (M2M) communications.
The first Digi XBee module, the Series 1, was based on the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol. It was FCC approved in late 2005.
The predecessors of XBees were developed by MaxStream Inc., which Digi acquired in 2006, and had names like XStream and XTend and operated in the 900 MHz range using proprietary protocols.
To augment the powerful capabilities of Zigbee, in 2008 Digi developed a mesh network technology, called DigiMesh®.
Digi XBee SX Modem, introduced in 2016, was described as the “muscle car” of the XBee ecosystem. This industrial-grade modem packed a punch with its 1-watt of output power at 900 MHz. It was — and is — the perfect embedded wireless solution for OEMs who need a modem capable of powering through noisy environments and covering extreme distances while not breaking the bank.
In 2019, Digi announced Digi XBee Tools, an award-winning suite of hardware, software and cloud-based tools designed to support the entire IoT product lifecycle, from prototyping through configuration, manufacturing, deployment and ongoing management. The tool set, which includes 9 supporting products and services, including some free downloads like the Digi XCTU configuration and test tool, is designed to expedite development, shorten time-to-market, improve the process of monitoring, managing, and updating deployed devices, and reduce friction in the entire lifecycle.
At a November, 2019 ceremony in our home state of Minnesota, Digi International won the 2019 Minnesota Tekne Award in the IoT category.
In 2020, Digi XBee Tools won again, and was named IoT Application Development Platform of the Year in the 8th Annual Compass Intelligence Tech Awards.
Digi XBee Turns 15! Take a Whirlwind History Tour
The OEM division of Digi is combining with Particle, which Digi acquired in 2026. The combined organization brings together Digi’s established OEM embedded connectivity expertise with Particle’s developer-friendly platform.
Digi International will release its fourth-quarter and full fiscal 2026 financial results after market close on November 11, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. ET. CEO Ron Konezny and CFO Jamie Loch will host a video conference call at 5:00 p.m. ET that day to discuss the results.
Digi International announced that Digi Axess, its industrial IoT monitoring and control platform, completed a self-attestation of compliance with the European Union’s GDPR.
Digi International announced the Digi EX61, a rugged 5G cellular extender for indoor and outdoor branch connectivity. It supports primary 5G connectivity or automatic failover, with dual-SIM cell-to-cell failover up to 10 times faster, and is designed for locations conventional routers cannot reach.
Digi International announced that Tachyon from Particle by Digi has been named a 2026 IoT Evolution Product of the Year. The credit-card-sized single-board computer was recognized for combining 5G connectivity and AI acceleration.
Digi International announced the Digi EX60, an indoor enterprise 5G platform combining primary wireless broadband, fast and assured failover, Wi-Fi 7, and AI-assisted network management in one managed solution.
Digi International announced its intent to acquire advanced sensing technology company Disruptive Technologies. The acquisition is intended to combine its sensing technology with SmartSense AI and digital workflows, advance the SmartSense physical-world intelligence platform, and support Digi’s entry into Europe.
Opengear, a Digi International company and global leader in out‑of‑band management solutions, has signed its first pan‑European distribution agreement with Ingram Micro. The deal will make Opengear’s network resilience solutions available across 20 European markets. The partnership expands Opengear’s reach and strengthens its presence in the European technology distribution channel.
A SmartSense survey of 150 U.S.-based loss and organized retail crime (ORC) prevention leaders found that 79% are increasingly concerned about cargo theft. Respondents noted that theft incidents are becoming more organized, sophisticated, and frequent. The findings highlight a growing threat to supply chain security and the need for enhanced protective measures.
Particle by Digi, a division of Digi International, announced that the Particle M635e has achieved Skylo certification. This certification validates the device’s satellite NTN connectivity, enabling IoT developers and enterprises to extend connected IoT solutions beyond terrestrial network coverage. The M635e combines cellular, Wi‑Fi, and satellite connectivity in a single device, making it the first of its kind to offer such comprehensive coverage.
Particle by Digi, a Digi International company, will showcase its latest embedded solutions at Embedded World North America 2026. The demonstrations highlight intelligent edge processing, multi-protocol connectivity, satellite-enabled IoT, and cloud-connected device management for connected product development.
