1978年 1978年，由 Chris Curry 及 Hermann Hauser 共同創立 Acorn Computers。這家新創公司獲得建構及生產 BBC Micro 的權利。
1990年11月 Arm 於 1990 年 11 月以 Advanced RISC Machines Ltd 為名正式成立為公司，這是由 Acorn Computers、蘋果電腦 (Apple Computer，現為 Apple Inc.) 及 VLSI Technology (現為恩智浦半導體公司 ，NXP Semiconductors N.V) 共同創立的合資企業。
1991年 Robin Saxby 爵士於 1991 年加入公司擔任首任董事長暨執行長，在劍橋郡 (Cambridgeshire) 的舊火雞舍率領團隊改變運算領域。
1993年 基於 Arm 架構的 Apple Newton 於 1993 年上市，不過這個產品在商業上並不成功，讓 Saxby 體認到 Arm 這家公司無法光靠單項產品永續生存。
1993年 Arm 於 1993 年與晶片廠商德州儀器 (Texas Instruments) 簽約，而德州儀器建議 Nokia 在即將推出的 GSM 行動電話採用 Arm 的設計。Nokia 6110 成為第一款採用 Arm 技術的 GSM 行動電話，並在市場上獲得極大的成功。
1998-04-17 公司在 1990 年代卓越的營運成果，讓 ARM Holdings PLC 得以在 1998 年 4 月 17 日同時於倫敦證券交易所 (London Stock Exchange) 及納斯達克 (NASDAQ) 完成上市。
2001年 Saxby 卸任執行長後 (仍繼續擔任 Arm 董事長)，新任執行長 Warren East 於 2001 年上任。
2006年 Arm 也於 2006 年收購挪威科技大學 (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) 研究專案所衍生的 Falanx Microsystems A/S 公司，進而開發出 Mali 繪圖處理器。
2007年 全球第一款智慧型手機於 2007 年問世，讓各領域需要更高的效能並維持長效電池續航力，也因為行動應用程式興起而創造各式各樣的全新運算功能。
2007年 Arm 以 Cortex-A9 CPU 多核心處理器因應這項挑戰，之後則在 2011 年推出創新的「big.LITTLE」方法，結合因應高效能需求的強大核心，以及在不需要高效能時使用的低功耗核心。

2014年 Arm 在全球科技領域無所不在，因而獲得軟銀創辦人孫正義 (Masa) 的關注，並與在 2014 年接替 Warren East 的時任執行長 Simon Segars 會面。
2016-09-05 軟銀在數月後於 2016 年 9 月 5 日完成收購 Arm，這也使得 Arm 在倫敦證券交易所及納斯達克公開上市近 20 年後，成為由軟銀做為控股股東的一家私人公司。
2018年10月 Arm 於 2018 年 10 月推出適用於高效能運算 (HPC) 及雲端運算解決方案的 Neoverse 產品系列，
2019年 同時在 2019 年，全球最快的超級電腦也是由 Arm 架構 SoC 所驅動。
2020年09月 Arm 在持續成長的資料中心市場密切合作的夥伴 NVIDIA 於 2020 年 9 月宣布計畫收購 Arm，但在 18 個月後撤回該項提案；
2021年03月 Arm 於 2021 年 3 月舉行 Vision Day 活動，宣布推出全新的 Armv9 架構，提供各種先進的運算及安全性功能。
2022年 2022 年全球有 65% 的嵌入式物聯網裝置，是以 Arm 架構的系統單晶片 (SoC) 建構而成。
2022年02月 Rene Haas 於 2022 年 2 月成為新任 Arm 執行長，接替在公司服務 30 年後決定去職的 Segars。
