1981 1981年に亀井記念財団を設立。亀井運蔵の遺志を実現し、遺産を活かして奨学金事業を開始。財源はカメイ（株）の株式を基本財産とし、その配当と寄付金を充当。
1981-05-12 （株）亀井商店（現カメイ株式会社）は奨学金事業に関する財団法人の設立許可を申請
1981-05-18 財団法人設立の許可がなされた。
1981-05-28 「財団法人亀井運蔵記念財団」として登記、奨学金事業を開始。初年度の国内奨学生採用者数は高校生等（支給奨学金）21名、大学生等（貸与奨学金）11名。
1984-03-17 「財団法人亀井記念財団」として変更登記。
1986 宮城県内の大学に留学する外国人留学生に対しても奨学活動を行うようにし、留学生への奨学金支給を開始。
1986-04-01 外国人留学生の採用を開始。初年度の外国人留学生採用者数は4名。
1994 東北大学の留学生に奨学金を支給し続けていることに対し、東北大学から謝意を表明され感謝状が贈呈される。
2001 文部科学大臣が留学生交流功労者表彰を授与。天皇・皇后両陛下の臨席のもと、賞状を授与される。
2001-11-02 国の「留学生受入れ制度百年記念」で、文部科学大臣より「留学生交流功労者表彰」を授与。
2012-07-25 新公益法人制度（平成20年12月1日に施行）に伴い、公益財団法人への移行認定を申請。
2012-09-26 宮城県知事により、公益財団法人移行へ認定。
2012-10-01 「公益財団法人亀井記念財団」として登記。
2014 宮城県「文化の日表彰」が行われ、教育文化功労団体として表彰状を受ける。
2014-10-28 宮城県の「文化の日表彰」で、宮城県知事より、教育文化功労団体として表彰。
