かばんを作り始めます。うちに残っているかばんのなかで一番古いのは明治末期のものですが、これが今のトートバッグの原型になっています。そして昭和のはじめ、アメリカから最新型のシンガーの工業用ミシンを購入。1,000円で家が建つ時代に、400円という高価なミシンでしたが、本格的に厚い帆布が縫えるようになりました。左官屋さん、大工さんなどの道具入れ、薬屋さん、牛乳屋さん、酒屋さんなどの配達袋を作り、常次郎考案の一澤帆布製のかばんは急速に広まっていきました。この頃は屋号や製品名を印刷したかばんを自転車にかけて走ると、かばんが動く広告塔になったのです。 |
