1902 大原孫三郎は信濃毎日新聞に掲載された山路愛山の所論に啓発され「『高等なる学術の通俗的普及』を目的として広く公衆の知徳を啓発し社会の公益を増進する」ため「倉敷日曜講演会」を創設しました。
1925 この講演会は大正１４年まで続き、回を重ねること７６回に及びました。
1933 逝去・敬堂会発足
1943 逝去・敬堂会を有隣会に改組
1943 昭和１８年、孫三郎が逝去するとその遺志は總一郎に引き継がれ敬堂会講演会となり、
1955 第１回敬堂会記念講演会を開催
1968 昭和４３年、總一郎逝去後は敬堂会を改組した有隣会の主要行事となりました。
2010-04 有隣会は平成２２年４月、孫三郎・總一郎の事績を顕彰し、その志を広く世に伝えることを目的に一般財団法人として再スタートしました。
2015-04 平成２７年４月には公益財団法人に移行し、社会貢献をも果たしながらより良い未来を築くための努力をして参りたいと存じます。
