History
Air Vanuatu was established on 5 September 1981, the year after Vanuatu's independence, as the national flag carrier. Ansett Airlines initially held 40 percent.
The Government of Vanuatu acquired full ownership of the airline in 1987.
In May 2024 the airline entered liquidation with EY appointed as liquidator. Limited domestic services resumed in August 2024 after a government funding injection.
