Ålandsbanken was established in 1919 in Mariehamn.
The bank has been listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange (now Nasdaq Helsinki) since 1942; A series (ALBAV) and B series (ALBBV) shares are listed.
In March 2009 the bank acquired the Swedish operations of Kaupthing Bank Sverige AB for SEK 388 million.
