After repeated wars and disasters, Seishindo rebuilt from the ashes and changed its name to Yamada Shiki. As times changed, the company continued to modernize its organization and manufacturing processes, drawing early on technology and knowledge from the United States and Germany. Demand for its paper tube products grew rapidly during Japan’s high-growth period. It led an industry dominated by small family-run businesses and helped raise standards across the sector as a market leader.

Founder Tasuke Yamada established the company in Minato-ku, Tokyo, under the name Seishindo. It manufactured and sold pasted boxes for traditional accessories such as sandals, combs, and chopsticks.

Overcoming repeated crises, Yamada Shiki continued to reorganize and restructure with a spirit of challenge. Amid the economic downturn after the bubble economy collapsed, fourth-generation president Haruhisa Yamada advanced the integration and streamlining of manufacturing, logistics, and processing, and focused on providing one-stop service to customers. The company opened a dedicated center to strengthen logistics and processing for gift-related products, including product management and individual packaging, and began to chart a path beyond traditional manufacturing.

Having produced containers for industrial and logistics uses, as well as premium goods and retail supplies, Haruhisa emphasized business serving high-value gifts and custom products. The company established a system for internal ventures and created a Future Planning Office to invigorate new businesses and projects and adapt its product-handling business to the next era. It brought design and die production in-house and shifted toward consultative services that propose solutions.

Even in Japan, a country with an unusually large number of long-lived businesses, only about 2% of companies survive for more than 100 years. Guided by the founding spirit of sincerity, Yamada Shiki has weathered upheavals in every era and turned its attention to gifts that convey feelings, deepen connections, and nurture joy. It established the Gift Research Institute to promote business collaboration with related and other industries, social innovation, and contributions to society as a long-established company, beginning a new chapter.
