1575 石山合戦に巻き込まれ、四天王寺は、支院を含め伽藍全体が焼失します。
1596 秀吉により四天王寺支院・勝鬘院（愛染堂）の多宝塔が再建されました。
1867 神仏分離令が出され、四天王寺は寺領を失います。
1932 第37代金剛治一は宮大工として、無類の職人気質であり、金剛組の仕事は極度に困窮。ついに、1932年（昭和7年）第37代はこれを祖先に詫びて先祖代々の墓前で自害してしまいます。
1934 室戸台風のため四天王寺五重塔が倒壊。金剛組に再建の命が下っています。
1955 株式会社 金剛組が誕生。第39代金剛利隆は経営の近代化を図り、以後金剛組は広く一般建築をも手掛けることとなりました。
2011-04-01 四天王寺手斧始め式が、平成23年4月1日に大阪市無形民俗文化財となりました。
