The Japan Ship Technology Research Association established a committee and held four meetings during fiscal years 2024-2025 to develop safety evaluation guidelines for promoting tablet use on inland vessels, addressing usage status and challenges in digital environment development.
The 12th IMO Ship Equipment Subcommittee (SSE 12) was held in London from March 9 to 13, during which Dr. Hirokun Eguro, a senior research fellow of our association, served as chair. The meeting discussed measures to address fire risks associated with the maritime transport of electric vehicles, and agreed to prioritize the development and initiation of review of provisional guidelines based on Japan’s proposals. Dr. Eguro was re-elected as chair for 2027.
