Mr. Hasegawa Tsuneo, who achieved winter ascents of the three major North Faces of the Alps—Matterhorn North Face in 1977, Eiger North Face in 1978, and Grand Jorasses North Face in 1979—using equipment supplied by Goldwin. His challenge to the Grand Jorasses, located on the border between France and Italy, marked the beginning of Goldwin’s involvement with adventurers. Equipment included jackets, overpants, Oron one-piece suits, sweaters, down jackets, socks, tents, and sleeping bags, all crucial for survival in extreme cold. This collaboration required a deep understanding of Mr. Hasegawa’s needs and the ability to produce trusted, high-quality products. Their joint efforts lasted a year, supporting his challenge and sharing the excitement. |
| 1979 |
Goldwin’s relationship with Mr. Hasegawa Tsuneo began with lectures on functions required in extreme cold environments. In such spaces, conventional judgments on the ground could be deadly. Repeatedly, they learned, created, and improved. At the same time, the revolutionary dry acrylic material Oron was announced. Its elasticity and resilience, used in high-end carpets, were applied to clothing, resulting in the "Oron One-piece". Unlike typical soft, air-absorbing materials, which could cause body cooling when lying on hard surfaces like rock, the carpet-like application solved this problem. Oron’s loftiness, resilience, and high moisture-wicking and quick-drying properties revolutionized sportswear. Mr. Hasegawa’s challenges were greatly supported by this innovation. |

One example is the "ProFisio" series of dustproof clothing worn in clean rooms such as semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and food factories. It not only prevents particles from passing through the body but also has dust suppression functions, durability, and mobility. Recently, the "Clean Room Air Conditioning Wear® Outer Vest," developed in response to heat stress needs, is a motor fan-equipped wear that was taboo in clean rooms. The movement of dust dispersed by the fan was verified, and it was completed as a heat countermeasure suitable for clean rooms. With a clean room for evaluation and development facilities as background, relentless development will continue. |

Clothes that become unwearable as children grow. Many are still in good condition but are discarded due to size out, eventually leading to waste. Facing this reality, in 2022, we launched the sustainable label "GREEN BATON" to reconsider the potential beyond clothing. This label aims for zero fashion waste through resale of kids' products. It collects and purchases used clothes, repairs and upcycles them, and connects them to someone who needs them next, creating a new cycle. Initially starting with kids' items from The North Face and Helly Hansen, it has expanded to junior ski wear. In addition to repair techniques, it also upcycles parts of products into new items. Resale items feature green zippers and name tags, symbolizing the baton, and are uniquely designed as one-of-a-kind items. The concept of long-term use and care for things is a value we want to pass on to the next generation. "GREEN BATON" fosters a responsible attitude and a quiet, powerful action toward the future. |

In 2022, Goldwin launched Goldwin 0, an experimental platform exploring the future of the company. It is not just a new line but a challenge to expand Goldwin's possibilities beyond traditional clothing, from perspectives such as nature, science, and technology. The product design draws inspiration from nature and play, combining high functionality with creativity and artistry. Its expression extends beyond fashion into visual arts, music, and space, attracting attention as an art project. It offers functional clothing that transcends gender and category boundaries. To foster more creative ideas, external designers were involved, and from 2023, Nu Abu, based in Portland, became the creative director. With diverse experience from luxury to sports brands, they participate in the project. The platform emphasizes next-generation materials like Spiber's Brewed Protein™ and meticulous attention to materials and manufacturing processes. In 2024, ocean adventurer Kojiro Shiraishi completed the solo, portless, and resupply-free circumnavigation yacht race "Vendee Globe." Departing from Les Sables-d'Olonne in France, this race involves circumnavigating the globe without resupply or port calls on a 60-foot (about 18.3m) offshore racing yacht, covering a total distance of 45,000 km over approximately 80 days, and is called the "most grueling yacht race in the world." Behind this achievement is a long-standing partnership between Helly Hansen and Mr. Shiraishi. Their collaborative gear development began in 2006 with "Berkley 5 Oceans," and has continued through the 2016 and 2020 Vendee Globe races, supported by Helly Hansen's cutting-edge sailing wear. To withstand harsh natural environments such as storms, extreme cold, and intense UV rays, extensive research and development have been conducted at "Goldwin Tech Lab" based on Mr. Shiraishi's feedback. Using 3D scanners, motion capture, and testing in artificial weather chambers, fully customized gear including underwear has been developed. The result is gear that is both durable enough to withstand circumnavigation without tearing and easy to move on deck. Each race incorporates new elements, and the gear continues to evolve as a unique product. Helly Hansen's apparel challenges the limits of the sea with Mr. Shiraishi, continuously evolving together. |

The snowflake motif in the logo symbolizes the history of working with skiing, representing the effort born from repeated challenges, as well as harmony between people and nature and hopes for a sustainable future. It also reflects the wish that each individual nurtures their diverse inner crystals and takes small steps to create a better natural environment. Furthermore, the headquarters was relocated to Kita-Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo, near the National Stadium, a symbol of sports, and at the heart of Japan's fashion scene in Aoyama and Omotesando, to create globally competitive new creations and strengthen global communication, accelerating future challenges. |
